In January 2009, Natalie “Nadya” Suleman became known as Octomom — the mother of the first known octuplets conceived through in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer to survive their births and infancies. While the media personality, who also has six older children conceived through IVF, is often recognized for her Octomom title, there hasn’t been much chatter about an “Octodad.” Nadya’s sperm donor for the octuplets was allegedly a man named David Solomon, and there have been plenty of rumors about him over the years.
Who Is David Solomon?
Not much is known about Solomon, who is allegedly listed as the father on the birth certificates of the octuplets — Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Makai, Josiah and Jeremiah — as well as the birth certificates of Nadya’s six older children, Elijah, Amerah, Aidan and twins Calyssa and Caleb, according to multiple reports. However, Nadya claimed to People in March 2025 that her six older kids had a different sperm donor than her octuplets.
Nadya made a rare comment about Solomon in an interview with The Sun in 2009, claiming that she went on “one platonic date” with him before she realized that she wanted him to father her kids without pursuing a relationship.
“It never became anything because I realized he was young and liked dating lots of women, and I wasn’t interested in that,” she said. “Maybe some day in the future he’ll be interested in seeing them (the children), but it’s not my choice. I can’t say whether he wants to play a part in their life.”
Though Nadya claimed to have dated Solomon, some people in her life, including the octuplets’ grandfather, believed that “David Solomon” was a fictitious name that she used on all of her children’s birth certificates, according to ABC News.

Other Men Have Addressed Octomom Paternity Claims
In February 2009, about one month after the octuplets were born, a man named Denis Beaudoin claimed on Good Morning America that he was the children’s biological father. Beaudoin alleged that he dated Nadya from 1997 to 1999 and that she asked him to donate his sperm. He requested a paternity test to verify his claim. However, a test was never taken, and Nadya denied his paternity claims.
Nadya’s ex-husband, Marcos Gutierrez, who divorced the Confessions of Octomom star in 2006, denied that he was the octuplets’ biological father in a March 2009 interview with People.
“They are not my kids, but I wish her the best. … I still want her to be happy. Happiness for her is to have all these kids,” he said.
Octomom Nadya Suleman Says Her Kids Joke About Being ‘Test Tube Babies’
In her March 2025 People interview, Nadya revealed that she was “honest” with all of her kids about their conception.
“I told them that they come from an anonymous frozen donor and I bought one, it was one dad,” she explained, later adding that her kids have not had contact with the donors. As for why her octuplets look so different from each other, Nadya said, “I’m very mixed, my ethnicities. And so the more diverse and ethnic you are, the more of the phenotype variations manifest. So, there’s one donor, it’s frozen because I bought one valid sperm, so I know it’s one donor. And I saw them actually, I saw the creation in the lab in the petri dish.”
“They’ll joke, ‘Oh, so we’re test tube babies?’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, and you’re more than that.’ But we joke about it,” she added.
