What is Andrei Castravet hiding on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? That’s the question on everyone’s minds after the reality star’s father-in-law, Chuck Potthast, and brother-in-law, Charlie Potthast, grilled him about his past in Moldova. Andrei’s wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Potthast, was put in an awkward position when both of her loved ones were feuding with her spouse during their trip to eastern Europe. Why Do Elizabeth’s Family Think Andrei Is Hiding Something?

Chuck and Charlie started asking Andrei, 33, all sorts of questions about his time in Moldova after they arrived in Chisinau in the July 26 episode. 

“We definitely want to learn more about him, his family, his past, his culture, how he grew up,” Elizabeth’s brother said about her husband. “He met my sister online and everything moved really fast. There’s still a lot of question marks about who he is. This is going to be nice to see how he acts in his own environment.”

When the conversation segued to Andrei’s past jobs, the father of one didn’t go into too much detail, which left Elizabeth’s loved ones looking for answers. 

What Did Andrei Do for Work in Moldova?

Andrei told Chuck and Charlie that he worked as a police officer and detective before leaving for Ireland. When he moved, Andrei took a job as a bouncer, where he would later meet Elizabeth.  

Her father and brother found it suspicious that Andrei previously uprooted his life after finding success in his career, especially because he was a stay-at-home dad back in the United States. However, Andrei denied there was anything to worry about and said it was really “none of their business.”

“You know, maybe it’s me being an overprotective dad,” Chuck said in his confessional. “But, what I found a little strange was why he would leave a nice career and move to a foreign country. There’s a lot of red flags there.”

The 29-year-old asked why Andrei was being “so evasive” about his previous gigs, but admitted the pressure coming from her loved ones was a lot. Elizabeth said they needed to “ease up.”

In a leaked clip for the Sunday, September 6 episode, Andrei met again with Chuck, Charlie and Libby’s sister Jenn Davis (née Potthast). Finally, he decided to open up about his past and the reason why he left the Moldovan police force and was “forced” to move to Ireland.

“OK so listen to this. The corruption here makes people do a lot of stuff, OK? So, when you’re in the police [force], you have to close eyes sometimes and you have to go along, OK? You’re working for somebody, and he’s [a] higher rank. So you have to execute the orders, and if you say no, they’re going to try to set you up,” Andrei explained.

“So I got set up with some stuff, and after this, I said, ‘No, I’m not going to do that anymore.’ And I just f—king left,” he added.

In his confessional, Andrei opened up more about his experience as a cop in Moldova. “Corruption in my country is really really bad. Basically, when you’re going into the police force as a new person, you have to prove yourself and people that are higher rank, they’re asking you to do things that are not really correct,” he claimed. “And at some point you have to make a decision to play the game and break the law or to get out, and I chose to get out.”

Chuck asked if someone at the force tried to frame him, and Andrei said yes. Charlie asked what would have happened to Andrei if he didn’t leave. “I don’t know,” Andrei answered. “Maybe I would ride a $100,000 car or maybe I [would be] in jail.”

“When you work an 80-hour a week job and you’re getting paid $250 max, you see what’s going on here?” Andrei explained to Jenn. “Because you’re getting that amount per month, it sounds like the people here almost feel like they have to be corrupt because there’s no other choice,” Jenn said, and Andrei agreed.

Jenn wasn’t the only person who finally understood where Andrei was coming from. “I can see how you can be easily corrupted over here because of the survival factor,” Chuck said in his confessional. “That you’re not gonna make a living just on your paycheck and you have to find another way to pay your bills and get ahead.”

But Charlie was a little more hesitant toward Andrei. “As of right now, I’m feeling kind of indifferent,” he told cameras. Fans will have to wait to see if Andrei’s brother-in-law will come around or not.
