‘The Challenge’ Star Johnny Bananas Mourns ‘Brother’ Tyler Duckworth During Private Funeral

The Challenge star Johnny Bananas is mourning the loss of his “brother” and former costar Tyler Duckworth after he was found dead inside his North Dakota home.

“Lights will guide you home,” Bananas (real name John Devenanzio), 44, captioned a Sunday, August 23, photo dump from his longtime friend’s funeral, which was held one day prior. “And I hope wherever they lead you, you know how deeply you were loved, and how much of you we’ll carry with us forever. Rest easy, brother 🕊️.”

Bananas — who first starred alongside Tyler on MTV’s The Real World: Key West in 2006 — shared photos of himself giving a eulogy, placing a hand on his friend’s urn, and embracing fellow reality star Jose Tapia.

He also showed photos from inside the private service, including the flowers and photo montages.

Tyler’s mother, Joni Duckworth, confirmed her son’s passing via Facebook on August 13.

“My son, Tyler, passed away earlier this week. Cause of death has yet to be determined,” she wrote.

North Dakota officials said he died on Tuesday, August 11, after being found inside his bathroom with the tub overflowing after neighbors reported water leaking through the ceiling.

According to investigators, there did not appear to be signs of foul play or a suspicious death. He had reportedly undergone a recent surgery, though it has not been determined whether that was a factor.

In addition to Real World: Key West, Tyler competed on six seasons of The Challenge: The Duel, The Gauntlet III, Cutthroat, Rivals, All Stars 2 and All Stars 3.

He was just 44 years old.
