Meghan Markle Advances ‘The Gentlemen’ Talks Following Netflix Renewal

The Gentlemen has been officially greenlit amid rumors that Meghan Markle is in talks to join the series.

This news comes just before the Guy Ritchie-created drama’s second season, which will premiere on Sept. 3.

Last week, reports emerged that the Duchess of Sussex was considering a return to acting for the Netflix show. At the time, a season three has not been announced. Now, The Gentlemen is set to release an additional season with or without Markle.

The Gentlemen takes place in the UK, where it is filmed. The series follows Eddie Horniman after he inherits his father’s estate, only to uncover that it is home to an enormous cannabis empire. It stars Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, and Ray Winstone.

Markle was said to be “offered a role in an upcoming project based in the UK,” according to a Deadline article from Aug. 21. They continued that she was in “very early stages.” While a The Hollywood Reporter piece from the same day claimed that her role “is currently being written, so it’s unclear how many episodes she would appear in.”

While there have been reports that Markle is no longer considering a role, on Aug. 24, People shared that they believe she is still in talks to join The Gentlemen, although no deal has been made.

All of this comes after the former Suits star and Prince Harry announced they are moving back to the UK with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. The children have been enrolled in a British school after living in California for six years. The family is expected to live in a private residence outside London.
