Kirk Cameron has some serious concerns about the influence Taylor Swift has over her millions of young female fans.
In an episode of The Kirk Cameron Show on August 14, the formerGrowing Pains star, 55, acknowledged Swift’s undeniable success and talent. However, he argued that some of the “Cruel Summer” singer’s music promotes values that directly contradict his Christian beliefs.
“Whether you like Taylor Swift or not, her accomplishment is pretty remarkable,” Cameron said. “She’s clearly talented. She’s a gifted songwriter.”
He also called Swift, 36, a “brilliant businesswoman” before pointing out the massive influence she has over her fanbase.
“Millions of young women don’t simply listen to her boyfriend songs,” Cameron continued. “They look up to her as a massive influencer on the way that they think about life and relationships.”
He went on to say that this was where his “celebration turns into concern,” claiming that Swift is doing more than entertaining her younger fans.
“You’re actually discipling them,” he said. “You’re showing them what is good. You’re telling them what’s true. You’re telling them what’s normal and desirable and worth pursuing.”
Cameron added that “over the years,” the Swift’s songwriting and performances have “increasingly included themes, imagery and lyrics that celebrate or normalize sexual immorality, vulgarity, ideas of revenge, drunkenness, bitterness and rebellion against biblical morality.”

The Left Behind actor clarified that “not every” song Swift sings does this, but he continued to voice his concern about her influence.
“Culture rarely hands a young girl a theology textbook titled, ‘Here’s what you should believe about sex,'” Cameron said. “Culture instead gives her a song by Taylor Swift.”
While the “Last Great American Dynasty” artist has incorporated profanity and more mature themes into her music as she’s gotten older, she’s also made clean versions of her albums available to fans alongside the originals.
Swift released alternate versions of songs that replace explicit language with different lyrics rather than simply censoring the original words. Her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, is available in both explicit and clean versions on streaming services, including Spotify.
