Per the report, Sweeney shot a roughly three-minute scene near the beginning of the film in which she played herself as a celebrity client being styled by Emily Blunt‘s character, Emily Charlton. The scene was meant to expand Emily’s reintroduction before Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci‘s characters show up looking for her help saving Runway magazine.

So what went wrong? A source told the outlet that it came down to a “creative decision,” meaning the scene just didn’t fit with the rest of the sequence structurally. The source added that the team was grateful for Sweeney’s participation and that cutting her wasn’t an easy call.
Fans first caught wind of a possible cameo when Sweeney was photographed heading to set in 2025, sparking plenty of buzz. But what the cameras captured never made it to the big screen. The publication noted neither Disney nor Sweeney’s representatives had weighed in on the cut cameo.

Still, the 28-year-old is hardly hurting for screen time these days: The Anyone But You actress recently popped back up as Cassie in the first two episodes of Euphoria‘s long-awaited third season, which premiered Sunday, April 12 on HBO.
And she’s not the only A-lister orbiting the Devil Wears Prada sequel. Per the outlet, Lady Gaga scored a cameo in the film and recorded a Doechii-assisted song called “Runway” for the soundtrack.
The sequel reunites the original dream team — Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, and Tucci — alongside newcomers including Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Kenneth Branagh, and Simone Ashley. Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna also returned.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 struts into theaters Friday, May 1.
