Survivor is back with season 48, and the group of contestants is hungry for that $1 million prize! They came straight out of the gate with fire in their eyes as they were sorted into tribes and put to the test in episode 1 of the competition series. In Touch breaks down the premiere episode, including who won the first challenge and which castaway was the first to be sent home.

Who Won the 1st Challenge?

All of the contestants met with Jeff Probst on the beach, and they were given their tribe names: Vula, Lagi and Civa. They were put to the test for their first challenge right away in the hopes of winning supplies for camp. They had to collect a treasure chest and go through an obstacle course before landing three sandbags on elevated platforms. Unfortunately, within the first few seconds of the challenge, Kevin injured his shoulder when he dove into the mud.

It was Lagi who ended up winning the first challenge and earned their tribe supplies. The other two tribes selected one person each to go on a journey and attempt to win supplies for their tribes. Shockingly, Kevin volunteered for his tribe. Kyle volunteered for his tribe.

“Once I hurt my shoulder, I felt like I wasn’t able to give it my all,” Kevin said, hoping to redeem himself.

Kevin and Kyle had to compete against each other in a challenge on the beach to retrieve their machete, pot and flint. Kevin took the early lead but Kyle quickly caught up. When it came time to use their pots to fill up a giant bottle with ocean water, Kyle accidentally broke the bottle and knew he had no chance at winning. Instead, Kyle just started helping Kevin fill his bottle. Kevin returned to camp with the supplies he won and his tribe was ecstatic.

The 1st Hidden Immunity Idol Was Found

David and Mitch went on a walk and they noticed a picture of an eagle printed on a tree. They then saw black string tied to a tree. Kyle returned to camp, putting their search to a halt. He explained that he did not win the supplies. Then, David decided to point out that there were symbols of different animals all over camp, as well as hidden letters. The entire tribe went on a wild goose chase trying to figure out what all of the symbols and letters meant.

At her camp, Saiounia found a beware advantage after noticing it was in a tree, however, it said she had to crack a code to get the actual idol. She asked the guys on her tribe that are in her alliance to help her figure out the code. Nobody could figure it out at first. Then, she remembered that there were colored symbols all over camp that corresponded with specific letters in the cryptogram. Eventually, she worked together with Cedrek and Justin to figure it out, and she was able to unlock the immunity idol.

Who Won the Immunity Challenge?

At the first immunity challenge, the tribes raced through a ramp and a net tunnel to release a key. Once they got the key, they had to move a sled down a track and complete a puzzle. The first two tribes to finish won tool kits and immunity idols. Lagi was the first tribe to win immunity. Civa was the second tribe to finish, sending Vula to tribal council.

Who Went Home at Tribal Council?

After the immunity challenge, discussions began back at the Vula camp about who should be voted out. It became very clear that Mary, Stephanie and Sai were the three names being thrown out there. At tribal council, Stephanie and Sai went back and forth in a heated exchange. Stephanie decided to play her shot in the dark. It turned out she was not safe. In the end, it was Stephanie that was voted out.
