Hulu’s new documentary about disgraced family vlogger Ruby Franke, called Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke, was released on February 27, 2025. What Is ‘Devil in the Family’ About?

Ruby was arrested alongside Jodi Hildebrandt on felony aggravated child abuse charges in August 2023. Hulu’s docuseries takes a closer look at both the events that led to the arrests and the aftermath.

How Long Did Ruby Franke Get Sentenced?

Ruby and Jodi’s August 2023 arrest came after one of Kevin and Ruby’s sons escaped through a window at Jodi’s house in Ivins, Utah, and appeared at a neighbor’s doorstep looking emaciated. He also had “open wounds and duct tape around the extremities,” the Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety Department said in a statement at the time. One of Kevin and Ruby’s daughters was also found in the house and appeared to be malnourished.

Ruby and Jodi were each charged with six counts of felony aggravated child abuse. The former YouTuber later pleaded not guilty to two out of six counts and guilty to the remaining four counts. In February 2024, Ruby was sentenced to four consecutive sentences of one-to-15-year terms in prison, meaning that a minimum of four years must be served.

Though the maximum amount of time Ruby could serve per her sentences would be 60 years, Utah law dictates that the maximum aggregate sentence for consecutive terms is 30 years. The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole will decide how long Ruby and Jodi will be behind bars.

Where Are Ruby Franke’s Kids Now? What Happened to Them

Ruby and Kevin, who separated in 2022, share six children — Shari, Chad, Abby, Julie, Russell and Eve. The former couple’s four minor children have largely remained out of the spotlight in the wake of their mother’s arrest. They were taken into the custody of the Division of Child and Family Services following her arrest, according to the Salt Lake Tribune, and Kevin filed for custody. The children were still in the state’s custody as of April 2024, his lawyer told People at the time.

“He just wants to do what’s best for his kids and get them back, get them under his tutelage and his fathership and protect them,” the lawyer said.

Meanwhile, Shari and Chad have remained in touch with Kevin and have started a tradition of having weekly dinners at his house, he told People in February 2025.

Both of Kevin and Ruby’s eldest children are active on social media. Chad shared in July 2024 that he had started real estate school, while Shari authored the memoir The House of My Mother: A Daughter’s Quest for Freedom, which was published in January 2025.
