No one does the holidays quite like Remy Ma and Papoose — and during an exclusive interview with In Touch, the Love & Hip Hop: New York power couple revealed exactly what fans can expect from their special, Remy and Papoose: A Merry Mackie Holiday — which airs tonight at 9 p.m. EST on VH1.

“People get to see us on Love & Hip Hop: New York], but they don’t really get to see just me and my husband and our family — the Mackies — in our element,” the “Wake Me Up” songstress shared. “I feel like they pick and choose which pieces they want to show of us, and with this special they gave us an opportunity to just showcase our black love and unified melting pot of our family that we have.”

And that’s not all — the longtime couple has BIG life changes to be excited about. “It’s kind of cool too because we’ve been relocating to North Carolina, so we can prepare for the children we plan on having,” Remy added. “I opened a store there. I have a new house there. It’s like our first time ever getting the whole family together and having everyone — sometimes one person is away or someone is sick — there’s usually one person missing. You guys will get to see how we celebrate our holidays.”

For a number of years, the mother-of-one was unable to experience a joyful holiday season, as she spent those times behind bars from 2008 until she was released in August 2014. Papoose recalled of these times, “I would visit her early in the morning and spend the entire day with her. Unfortunately, at some point I would have to leave. It would be pretty tough to leave her there, but she’s a tough cookie. She sticks to her own.”

“I’d go with the kids, we’d spend the day together and laugh — they had decorations for Christmas throughout the visiting floor, but that was all we had. It was kind of like a long-distance relationship. Sometimes her mom and them would make it up to visit her but sometimes they couldn’t. It was a long-distance holiday for us, and this — why the show is so special — is this was the first time we were able to get everybody together under one roof. It was a beautiful thing.” One thing is for sure — this year will DEFINITELY be different!

Catch Remy and Papoose: A Merry Mackie Holiday tonight at 9 p.m. EST on VH1.
