So bittersweet. Nipsey Hussle’s final music video was released by DJ Khaled on May 16, almost two months after the rapper was shot and killed in Los Angeles. The video is for their joint track “Higher,” and features John Legend on vocals as well. See the final video for yourself above.

On March 31, Nipsey — whose real name was Ermias Asghedom — was killed outside his clothing store in L.A. Less than 48 hours later, police captured the suspect — 29-year-old Eric Holder — and early on April 4, he was officially charged by the LA County DA’s Office on one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. “The criminal complaint also includes allegations that he personally used a firearm and caused great bodily injury and death,” read a press release obtained by In Touch.

Nipsey’s death brought on weeks of mourning from fans and fellow rappers. And now, they have something more to remember him by. On Wednesday, May 15, Khaled, 43, announced on Twitter that he would be releasing a song featuring the rapper on his album, Father of Asahd. He said Nipsey “shared his energy and positivity with me on a video set for a song called, ‘Higher.’ After much prayer and reflection; and with the full blessing of the Asghedom family, I am sharing that with the world.”

On the track, Nipsey raps about his family and life — including his longtime girlfriend, Lauren London, and his kids. John, 40, tweeted on May 15, “Proud to be a part of this inspiring record with DJ Khaled and @nipseyhussle. We lost him too soon. The proceeds will go to his loved ones.”

Khaled confirmed that on Twitter as well, and wrote, “The very title of this song reminds us that vibrating on a ‘Higher’ lever was the essence of Nipsey’s soul. It is in this spirit, of moving forward, of preserving his mission that I, my co-writers, producers and label partners are donating 100 percent of all our proceeds from ‘Higher’ to Nipsey’s children, Emani and Kross.” Nothing can make this tragic loss any easier for Nipsey’s family and friends, but hopefully, this song brings everyone involved some measure of peace.
