A neighbor of missing Nancy Guthrie has claimed his dogs displayed unusual behavior during the overnight hours when the Tuscon, Arizona, resident disappeared.
Jeff Lamie, who lives just four houses down from Nancy, 84, in the Catalina Foothills area, said his dogs woke up unexpectedly the night of January 31 into February 1 — a disturbance he said now stands out.
Appearing on Crime Stories with Nancy Grace on Monday, March 23, Lamie revealed the odd activity as investigators continue canvassing the area.
“Well, preceding the event, there were some evenings where our dogs woke up which was highly unusual. We don’t know if there’s a correlation,” Lamie told Grace, adding that the FBI has asked “all neighbors” to provide camera footage and any recollections they have.
Lamie noted one of his dogs is typically a “deep sleeper.”
“But the dogs did rouse and I took them out. There’s an image of me on camera. I heard nothing and saw nothing. But animals, especially dogs, can be hypersensitive,” he continued.
“Full confession, when the dog woke me up to say, ‘I’ve got to go outside,’ I was grudgingly accommodating and took the dog out to our little courtyard in the back of our house. And it was unusual, and it seldom happens,” Lamie added.
He said some investigators also asked about activity on January 11.

“So we had this activity at that time and human nature, we just file it away and didn’t really think about this until we were asked to review our video and then had this recollection and saw this correlation which was very unusual,” Lamie said.
“It hasn’t happened since,” he added of the overnight disturbances.
Lamie also noted there was “no barking” when the dogs went outside, though one appeared alert “for a moment.”
“It was fascinating, actually,” he told Grace. “Now, once again, in my fugue state past one 1 a.m. I did not take note of any of this at the time, and took the dog back in and went back to bed, you know? And once again, we don’t know what was occurring.”
Grace, a former felony prosecutor, said she’s seen cases where dogs act as an early warning.
“There are no coincidences,” Grace said. “The best witness I ever put on the stand was a dog.”
On Sunday, March 22, the Guthrie family requested surveillance footage from January 11 as part of the ongoing investigation.
“There’s nothing there, critical that we can say positively say that this individual, with or without the backpack, was at that house, on Jan. 11,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told 13 News.
However, they “do believe that something occurred on Jan. 11, and that’s with the FBI’s analysis of the equipment and digital stuff they’ve done,” he added.
Nancy was reported missing on February 1 after she failed to attend a streaming church service at a friend’s home. Doorbell footage later showed a masked man on her front porch in the middle of the night, though few additional details have been released.
