Judd Apatow Praises Sexual Assault Victims for Coming Forward: “There Will Be a Positive Shift” (EXCLUSIVE)

Hollywood has been rocked as of late with sexual assault allegations — and famed director and producer Judd Apatow spoke out about the controversies during an exclusive interview with In Touch. Fans have heard him reveal his disapproval of what’s been happening in the past, and he further elaborated while promoting his new Netflix special, Judd Apatow: The Return.

“I think that women and men have felt like it wasn’t safe to speak up and as a result we have an enormous amount of people that thought if they spoke up that they would never work again or get sued. They didn’t see it as something that would be positive for them and I think because a lot of people are speaking up, people feel like it’s a much safer environment to speak and hopefully, in the future, there will be a very positive shift so people in power will realize they can’t abuse their power and people will feel more encouraged to step forward when they feel mistreated,” he explained.

“Unfortunately, I think every business has had a bad track record. There are always people in power who control points of entry to certain jobs and there have been people who take advantage of that to hurt and abuse people. So unfortunately, you see it in politics, you see it in academia, you see it in all businesses. Hopefully, that will change now because a lot of people are getting in trouble — and maybe they never considered that they could get in trouble before.”

Judd’s latest special premiered on the streaming service on Dec. 12, 2017. “I missed [doing standup],” the father-of-two shared. “I was working with Amy Schumer on Trainwreck and she was going on these tours and it sounded like so much fun. It reminded me that that was my original dream, to be a comedian.”
