Once the Duggar ladies are married, they have a little more freedom than their single sisters — but they are still expected to abide by the family’s rules of modesty. And if they don’t, they could be met with significant criticism — just ask Joy-Anna Duggar, who has made headlines for her racy PDA moment with her husband, Austin Forsyth. Joy isn’t the first of the Duggar ladies to come under fire for not closely following the Duggar rules of modesty. Recently, her older sister Jinger made headlines when she decided to wear high heels and a sleeveless top. As the Duggars previously explained, their decision to live a more modest life than most comes from their belief that their bodies are sacred and should be reserved solely for the man they marry.

“We do not dress modestly because we are ashamed of the body God has given us; quite the contrary. We realize that our body is a special gift from God and that He intends for it to be shared only with our future husband…” the Duggar ladies explained in the debut book, Growing Up Duggar. “We avoid low-cut, cleavage-showing, gaping, or bare-shouldered tops; and when needed, we wear undershirts. We try to make it a habit to always cover the top of our shirt with our hand when we bend over. We don’t want to play the peekaboo game with our neckline.”
