It’s been an emotional journey for Gary Shirley to find out his true paternity — and it sounds like the Teen Mom OG star finally has answers. Gary — the father of Amber Portwood‘s daughter, Leah — was eager to learn whether or not his mother Carol’s boyfriend, Jody, is his biological father, and the DNA test results have arrived.
Gary gave his wife, Kristina, the letter to open when the verdict arrived in the mail — and to their emotional surprise, Jody is NOT the condom and cookie mogul’s father. The couple, along with Carol, were devastated by the outcome — and he even took to Twitter to share his disappointment.
“I’m still processing the DNA test. I’ve always thought Jody was my Dad,” he wrote. “Learning he wasn’t makes me feel like there [is] a huge hole in my life. I fill that hole by trying to be the best dad to my kids.” He also shared that he “has an idea” about who his father is, but is “still just trying to figure out my next steps.” We can’t imagine how difficult this must be for his family.
The reality star shares a two-year-old daughter, Emilee, with Kristina — whom he married in September 2015 — and recently told In Touch he wants more kids. However, “Kristina had gotten her tubes tied. It’s the hassle of taking care of them because your relationship gets put on the back burner. Maybe one day we will go back and untie them. Maybe fostering, that was something we were interested in, and you can adopt through fostering.” Kristina also has a daughter named Karly from a previous relationship.
