Twitter Is Having a Meltdown After Fans Accuse Taylor Swift of Copying Beyoncé’s Coachella Performance at the BBMAs

Don’t mess with the Beyhive. After Taylor Swift performed at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday, May 1, Twitter is accusing the pop star of copying Beyoncé’s Coachella performance.

The 29-year-old opened the show with a live performance of her new single, “ME!” However, viewers were quick to point out that not only was the marching band very similar to Bey’s performance — which was featured in the new Netflix documentary Homecoming — in April 2018, but they also both wore similar pink outfits and sparkly boots during their respective time on stage.

One person wrote, “Beyoncé didn’t invent a drumline, but you can’t convince me that Taylor Swift, from her early years on a Christmas tree farm, came up with this just like that. Sorry,” while another echoed, “No, Beyoncé didn’t invent drumline, however, the band dressed in pink, her in a leotard, literally the scene resembles Beyoncé’s opener at the top of the bleachers. She knows EXACTLY what she was doing and the implications that has. #BBMAS.” A third person fumed, writing, “Not only did Taylor Swift rip off Beyoncé’s #Homecoming by trying to appropriate a culture that is not hers, but this bitch also tried to look like Beyoncé’s boots. SMH. Just goes to show Beyoncé is [an] inspiration to these bitches.”

Naturally, Swifties took to Twitter to defend the blonde bombshell. One user explained, “Girl, it’s drums … Beyoncé wasn’t the first to use drums in a performance, and Taylor definitely isn’t either. Beyoncé had a whole ass band, and Taylor had just drums. Y’all need to stop comparing the most general things just because you don’t like Taylor. A second person added, “I can’t believe that Twitter has gotten to the point where people are comparing Beyoncé and Taylor’s drumlines … so Taylor used drums, lots of people do, big whoop. I love Bey, but this really isn’t THAT big of a deal.”
