Camila Mendes Recalls Realizing Rudy Mancuso Was Proposing

Camila Mendes recently shared the moment she knew she was about to be engaged.

During an appearance on an episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Mendes revealed how she was totally surprised by her fiancé Rudy Mancuso popping the question back in Oct. 2025.

​Expecting a casual night out, Mendes thought she was heading to her best friend’s speakeasy birthday dinner before going to Glen Powell’s tracksuit-themed bash afterwards. In an effort to save some time, she planned to wear her tracksuit to dinner, until her friend insisted that she come dressed in a more “hot but mature” Sex and the City kind of vibe.

Initially, Mendes thought her friend was being a “birthday-zilla” for being so picky about her outfit, but her friend was actually secretly prepping her to be proposed to—and photographed—that night.

“So then I put this jacket, and thank God because I would not have wanted all my engagement photos to be with the outfit I was wearing underneath, I get there and it’s like this super secret, like, knock, knock, knock on the door,” Mendes recalled. “And I’m like, ‘Oh, my God. Like, this is like a proper speakeasy.’ But it was just to let everyone know that I had arrived.”

When none of her friends followed her into the location, Mendes then began to suspect that something different was happening.

“I walk in, and I just see this long aisle of white, and [Rudy’s] standing at the very end. But he was coming to the birthday dinner; he was going to meet us there, so it wasn’t shocking to see him there. And I just thought this is what the restaurant looked like. I didn’t know,” said Mendes
“I was like, ‘Oh, my God. It’s beautiful in here.’ And there were white flowers everywhere and candles. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God. This restaurant is so gorgeous.’ And I see him standing there, and it took me a second, but I kept walking. And then I realized my friends weren’t walking with me,” she continued. “Like they stayed behind. I look back at them, and they’re like giggling.”

“I look back at Rudy, he’s standing there smiling.”

Following the engagement party, they headed to Powell’s party. Mendes said that Mancuso was so on “cloud nine” that he announced their engagement news to the paparazzi outside.

“Rudy just goes, ‘We got engaged!’ He announces it to the whole world,” the Masters of the Universe star said. “And I was like, ‘Oh, God.’ I’m like, ‘You shouldn’t have done that, but I love you, and it’s fine.’ And then it ended up being great. It was just such a fun night, and we got to run into so many people and be like, ‘We’re engaged!’ It was just the high of that.”
