Britney Spears’ Dad Is Now Her Sole Conservator After Her Lawyer Resigns

Father knows best. Pop star Britney Spears‘ lawyer Andrew Wallet resigned as her co-conservator, which leaves the 37-year-old’s father Jamie Spears as her only conservator, according to court documents obtained by In Touch. And Wallet wants out of the co-conservatorship as quickly as possible.

“The conservatorship is engaged in numerous ongoing business activities requiring immediate attention and it, therefore, is in the best interest of the conservatee that the acceptance of Wallet’s resignation and the issuance of amended letters of conservatorship of the estate occur immediately and without delay,” the documents read. “Substantial detriment, irreparable harm and immediate danger will result to the conservatee and her estate if the relief requested herein in not granted on an ex parte basis.”

Britney’s father entered into a co-conservatorship over her finances after she suffered from a series of issues in between 2007 and 2008. At the time, Britney was under a lot of stress as she was reportedly battling addiction and an undisclosed mental illness while in the middle of a heated custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Federline over their two children, 13-year-old Sean and 12-year-old Jayden. On February 16, 2017, Britney infamously walked into a hair salon in Tarzana, California and shaved her head — just one day after checking herself in and out of rehab. Just days after shaving her head, Britney was photographed as she attacked a paparazzo’s car with an umbrella. Then, in January 2008, Britney was placed under a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold after she refused to return her sons to Federline.

After Britney’s hospitalization, a judge placed her father and her lawyer into a co-conservatorship, which is when the court appoints a someone to manage another person’s financial affairs when they are unable to do so due to a physical or mental illness or old age, according to RocketLawyer. Right now, Britney’s father is the only person in charge of her finances, but insiders revealed to Us Weekly that “a replacement [for Wallet] is being sought.”
