Whoopi Goldberg is weighing in on the upcoming Los Angeles mayoral race.
On the Thursday, May 14, broadcast of The View, the Sister Act star, 70, discussed Spencer Pratt‘s candidacy, including his campaign ads that used Artificial Intelligence.
“He reposted an AI video supporting his campaign, full of violent imagery featuring Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, and incumbent Mayor Karen Bass,” Goldberg remarked.
The daytime talk show did not play any of the AI videos, which portrayed Bass as different bad-guy characters, including Darth Vader from Star Wars and the Joker from DC Comics.

The ads depicted graphic scenes, including “the throwing of tomatoes, which looked like blood, or drowning me and the governor in a reservoir,” Bass said in an interview with CNN on May 12, calling the videos “a violent trend, and that is very scary.”
Goldberg seemingly agrees. “I’m glad we’re not showing it, because it stunned me,” she said on The View. “Especially when we’re talking about, ‘oh, we have to tone down the violence.’ And I mean, I was kind of freaked out by what I saw.”
The EGOT winner said she isn’t opposed to having non-traditional politicians in office, but they still have to be worthy candidates.

“If they know what they’re doing, I welcome anybody who knows how to do this. But, if you’re going to be like the guy who’s already in charge? Thank you, no, I’m not happy with what’s going on,” she said. “Just because somebody’s famous or is famous for something doesn’t mean they know what’s going on and how you’re thinking or feeling.”
“I’m all for the viral approach. If it’s effective, if it’s pushing forward a message and solutions for the people, I think introducing AI into campaigns in general is super dangerous,” she admitted. “I think it can be incredibly misleading.”
The 2026 LA mayoral election takes place on Tuesday, June 2.
