‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Stars Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton Are Our 2019 Awards Season #CoupleGoals
If you’ve fallen in love with Rami Malek via his larger than life star-turn as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, we regret to inform you of two very specific things. First off, so has the rest of the world. Second, get in line, ma’am, because he unfortunately already has a babe on his arm. Sorry. Who, you ask? Well, if you really want to know who your competition is … please say hello to the 37-year-old actor’s girlfriend, Lucy Boynton.
The 25-year-old blonde, who was born in New York on January 17, is a hardworking Capricorn who met her boyfriend the same way any self-respecting Cap would: at work. The actress, who actually grew up in London with English parents, fell hard and fast for Rami on set of the rock and roll biopic, in which Lucy played Freddie’s muse Mary Austin.
In April 2018, an insider told Us Weekly, “They met while filming Bohemian Rhapsody in London. He is so into her. He goes and visits her in London all the time.” We’re picturing a little “meetcute” on set between these two and we can just see the sparks flying.
Working with her on the film made such an impression on the actor, he spoke about not “needing to act” in scenes with her while on a panel at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in the beginning of February 2019. So. Friggin’. Adorbs.
“I get a lot of love, I get a lot of takes, but there are people who can get their jobs done in just a few takes, in comparison,” he gushed. “Actors like Lucy Boynton, who, when I looked into her eyes, I thought, ‘Oh, I don’t have to act. I don’t have to do a thing.'”
Rami confirmed their relationship a month before on January 3, 2019, during a sweet acceptance speech for the Breakthrough Artist Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. “Thank you, Lucy Boynton. You have been my ally, my confidante, my love. Thank you so much,” he said.
“She’s such a wildly talented human being and an inspiration,” he also told Us Weekly a few days later. We love a man that gushes about his girl, y’all.
Before the confirmation of their love, we just wanna point out that these two weren’t just rumors and speculation. The couple was spotted kissing at a lunch in L.A. in August 2018, so we all were pretty sure something was up way before Rami decided to let us all into their love in his acceptance speech.
Since then, the couple has been super adorable on the red carpet for several different awards shows. They got snuggly at the 2019 Golden Globes.
Then, Rami actually kissed her before going up to accept his 2019 SAG Award. There’s still a few awards shows left this season, so they better keep outdoing themselves when it comes to cuteness.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the I, Robot star has fallen for one of his costars. He was previously linked to Portia Doubleday, before they parted ways in 2017. They were pretty cute too, NGL.
As far as Lucy’s career prior to her breakout in BoRhap, she doesn’t exactly have the largest filmography section on Wiki. She played a Young Beatrix Potter in Miss Potter in 2006, but didn’t have another film role again until amping up her career in 2013. Since then, she has been seen in a few noteworthy movies — atmospheric horror film The Blackcoat’s Daughter, musical Sing Street, and the mystery Murder on the Orient Express, to name a few — but the majority of her resume is still filled with unknowns and newness.
Both Lucy and Rami have seen great recognition through their roles in the highly-regarded biopic so we hope the exposure does great things for Lucy’s career going forward — Rami, you too, but we need to see more of your GF!
