The year 2013 was full of highs and lows for The Little Couple stars Jen Arnold and Bill Klein.

In October, they adopted their second child, Zoey, from India. But in December, the mom-of-two and neonatologist revealed she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

And now in the couple’s forthcoming memoir, Life Is Short (No Pun Intended), the 41-year-old reveals she faced a life-threatening medical scare prior to her diagnosis when she found herself experiencing heavy vaginal bleeding during their trip to India.

The scare came shortly after she underwent an operation to treat a nonviable pregnancy.

“I really started to feel as if I was hemorrhaging,” she writes in the memoir, per Radar Online.

“It seemed unreal that I might have a real health crisis on top of everything else that was going on. And yet the bleeding persisted and then started to get more serious.”

She went to her gynecologist as soon as she returned home to Houston — but she already experienced significant blood loss because the doctors in India were unable to deal with her unique needs due to her dwarfism and skeletal dysplasia.

Jen writes, “I became worried that if for some reason I became unconscious due to more blood loss and shock, the people treating me would not know how to care for me… This couldn’t be happening and yet it was.”

She recalls carrying a note in her pocket for the flight attendants because she was fearful something would happen during her 14-hour trip back to the States.

And she wasn’t alone in her concerns.

“Bill told me months later that he had tracked my entire journey on his phone, never sleeping the entire night and making sure any plane I was on was not diverted, which could mean a medical emergency for me,” she recalls in the pages of their book.

“It still brings tears to my eyes when I think of him in India with our children, staying up all night to track my flights to be sure I wasn’t in danger.”

The couple’s memoir, Life Is Short (No Pun Intended), hits shelves on May 26.
