The Real Housewives franchise has had their fair share of explosive feuds between cast members throughout its 20 year run. However, one of the most memorable was the fiery battle between Lisa Rinna and Yolanda Hadid in season 6 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Throughout the season, numerous cast members were doubting Hadid’s chronic Lyme disease diagnosis even claiming that Hadid was suffering from Münchausen syndrome. Munchausen syndrome is a mental health disorder where an individually deliberately fakes, exaggerates, or induces a physical or psychological illness on themselves. While numerous housewives were sharing this sentiment, Rinna was at the center of the drama.
Rinna first brought up Münchausen syndrome to her RHOBH cast members Lisa Vanderpump and Kyle Richards in relation to the legitimacy of Hadid’s chronic Lyme disease diagnosis. The rumors culminated in an explosive scene between Rinna and Hadid where Hadid confronted Rinna about the Munchausen syndrome rumors.
Rinna noted in a 2019 interview, three years after the episode aired, with The Los Angeles Times that the Munchausen storyline and feud with Hadid was “tough” and that she was close to leaving the show.
Fans still continue to debate the feud between the two a decade later. In one post from three months ago in the RHOBH subreddit, fans reminisced and debated the iconic confrontation between Hadid and Rinna.
“Let’s be honest… we all know that LVP and Kyle set up the scene and wanted Rinna to be the one to bring up Yolanda and Munchausen,” noted one user.
Another commented, “Honestly this was so diabolical but I’m glad Rinna went through with it bc it gave us great tv lol.”
In another thread from three years ago, one fan asserted that, “Lisa Rinna was not crazy for thinking Yolanda had Munchausen she just shouldn’t have said it out loud.”
In response, one user expressed, “Honestly if they were her real friends they wouldn’t have done what they did. It was kinda dark & evil how they confronted Yo.”
Another user shared a different sentiment writing, “I totally agree with this. Everyone was probably suspecting the same but to say it out loud was rude. Munchaussens is a serious mental illness and this whole situation was handled very badly.”
While fans discussed if they were on Rinna or Hadid’s side in the argument, one thing many of them agreed on was that season 6 was the golden era of RHOBH. Hadid left the show after season 6 in 2016 and Rinna stayed on all the way until season 12 which aired in 2023.
