Teen Mom OG’s Cory Wharton and Girlfriend Taylor Selfridge Welcome Baby No. 2, Reveal Health Diagnosis
The start of something new! Teen Mom OG star Cory Wharton has welcomed his second child with his girlfriend, Taylor Selfridge, and third child in total, making Cory an official father of three.
The newest addition to their family, a daughter named Maya Grace Wharton, was born with tricuspid atresia, which is “a form congenital heart disease,” Cory, 31, revealed in his Instagram post on Friday, June 10.
“It happens when the hearts tricuspid valve does not develop,” he added. “This valve plays a part in the heart’s essential function, which is to pump blood between the lungs and body.”
Despite the concerning condition, Maya had “her first successful surgery on Tuesday” and she will also require “two open heart surgeries one being at 4-6 months old and the next not being till she’s 3 or 4 years old,” he explained.
Addressing Maya directly, Cory wrote, “We can’t wait to have you home, So you just keep recovering and before you know it you’ll be home with us.”
Leading up to her due date, Taylor, 27, shared a sweet post on Instagram, reflecting on her final weeks with only one child.
“Only 3ish weeks left until Mila is officially a big sister,” the now-mom of two wrote on May 9. “I’m emotional because she still feels like a baby to me but she’s growing up so fast. She doesn’t know she’s going to have a little sibling yet she just knows ‘baby’ in mommy’s tummy. I love you so much Mila & I can’t wait to see you as a big sister. You’ll always always always be mommy’s baby.”
Cory announced the news that he and Taylor were expecting baby No. 2 via Instagram on March 5, 2022, sharing a heartfelt post.
“We will welcome a new member to the family!” Cory wrote at the time. “I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my 31st birthday. Each one of my kids have continued to push me into making me a better man, so I know you’re gonna do the same. Throughout the years the satisfaction I get from raising my two lil girls is unmatched. The joy that they bring me, the excitement is unmatched. I truthfully feel like God has put me in a position that I’m so lucky & blessed to be in.”
In addition to gushing about the joy fatherhood has already brought him, Cory opened up about his relationship with his father.
“As a kid, my dad wasn’t able to be around, and I feel like that’s why I try and give you girls EVERYTHING that I have,” Cory continued in his statement. “I can’t wait to watch you grow with your sisters Ryder and Mila. I’m telling you right now, both those girls love you so much.”
The Challenge alum is also father to daughter Mila, whom the couple welcomed in April 2020, and 4-year-old Ryder, whom he shares with ex and fellow Teen Mom OG star Cheyenne Floyd.
Cory and Taylor met in November 2017 when they were filming season 1 of Ex on the Beach. After the show ended, they split in February 2018 then reunited one year later. In October 2019, the duo announced they were expecting their first baby together.
“I’m now surrounded by all QUEENS,” Cory wrote when announcing Mila’s name. “I’m so blessed to be in this position and I’m so thankful that, in a time like this I was allowed in the room and I got to cut the umbilical cord.”
