Robert Irwin is eager to chase his Hollywood dreams — and longtime family friend Russell Crowe wants to help make it happen, In Touch has learned.
“He’s taking Robert under his wing,” confirms a source. “Russell feels very honored he can do this for Robert.”
The Oscar-winning actor, 61, was “great mates” with Irwin’s late father, Steve Irwin — who passed away in 2006 following a stingray attack — the 22-year-old Aussie explained to People about their connection in October 2025.
“I’ve known him for as long as I’ve been alive,” the wildlife conservationist pointed out in the interview. “He’s someone that I look up to and has truly inspired me.”

According to the source, Irwin’s stint on season 34 of Dancing with the Stars inspired him a whole lot too.
“Robert can’t stop talking about how amazing the experience was,” reveals the source. “It totally wet his appetite for Hollywood.”
After claiming the mirrorball trophy in November 2025, Irwin flew to South Africa to cohost the Australian series I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.
“Robert has so many commitments to handle right now in Australia — there is huge interest in him, so he’s got a lot of paid appearances and other work opportunities,” shares the source. “But it’s no secret that once he gets it all done, he wants to head right back to California.”
During a January talk with the West Australian, Irwin said he has now realized that he’s a “storyteller” and rattled off his lofty ambitions.
“[I] see myself hosting more, doing scripted (TV projects),” he shared with the publication. “I would love to do other TV shows, and I would love to do movies one day.”
With Crowe in his corner, the sky’s the limit, adds the source.
“Russell is thrilled to help,” reveals In Touch’s source. “He’s taking it seriously.”
