The 41-year-old has shocked fans with a new job and for looking noticeably different from his swimming days when he was last winning medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Posting on Instagram on May 10, Lochte told how he will become an assistant coach at Missouri State University’s swim team. “Over the last couple of years, something so unexpected happened,” he said. “I might actually be more passionate about coaching than competing. Don’t get me wrong, I had a pretty good swimming career, but honestly, I think I might even be a better swim coach.”
As per a E! News report, comments underneath the video from fans focused as much on his appearance as his new job.
One user wrote: “Literally does not look like him.”
Lochte has seen huge changes in his life in recent years. His wife Kayla Reid, 34, filed for divorce following seven years of marriage in 2025, announcing they had split on social media in June of that year. He is father to Caiden, 8, Liv, 7, and Georgia, 2, with his ex-partner.
Lochte has a new girlfriend Molly Gillihan and she commented under his video, writing, “I love you. I am beyond, beyond proud of you. This is what you were made to do!!! Congrats my lovie!”
During his swimming career Lochte won six gold medals, three silver and three bronze, beginning at Athens in 2004 and ending in Rio 12 years later.
