R. Kelly Responds to His Child Coming Out as Transgender
Earlier this month, it was revealed R. Kelly’s child, born Jaya, has come out as a transgender man and now goes by the name Jay.
And while the teen hadn’t come out to his famous father as of March, it appears the singer has learned of his son’s transition—although it seems he hasn’t exactly been accepting of the change.

“You don’t really wanna open it up by saying my daughter is becoming my son,” he said during a radio interview on Monday, June 23. “Don’t even give the blogs that kind of credit. You know what I’m saying? Real talk.”
On Ask.FM (which is a social networking site that allows users to answer questions submitted anonymously) Jay recently admitted he was “kind of” scared to tell his dad, and we can understand why—it appears the 47-year-old is addressing the topic as if it’s a rumor, even though Jay has addressed it himself.
“As far as that is concerned, always believe what you see with your own eyes, that is,” the singer continued in his interview.

“I’ve heard a lot of things about a lot of people and it was never true. You gotta know there’s a back story. There’s a background. That’s why you can’t judge nobody.”
Unlike his father, Jay’s mother—Hollywood Exes star Drea Kelly—has been nothing but supportive of her son’s decision.
“[My mom] was like, ‘Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, [lesbian], you name it and I would still love you so much,” the teen gushed on his Ask.FM page.
“She was very proud of me, I was like, ‘Thank you mum for accepting the fact that I’m a transgender.’”
