Nick Cannon Says He’s Done Giving Pete Davidson Advice Following Split From Kate Beckinsale

His days as a matchmaker are over. Nick Cannon blames himself for Pete Davidson’s failed relationship with Kate Beckinsale after he advised his friend to date an older woman.

“I will take credit for it,” Nick, 38, told Us Weekly on Saturday, July 27, at Michael B. Jordan and Lupus LA’s MBJAM19 at Dave and Buster’s in Hollywood. “I’m the one who told him, ‘Get you an older woman, man!’ I said that,” said Nick, who was married to Mariah Carey, 11 years his senior. “Leave them little pop stars alone! An old woman knows what she wants! She doesn’t play no games. That’s what I’m talking about. Get you somebody older!”

As for the type of woman the Drop That Seat host sees Pete, 25, with next, Nick said he just wants what’s best for his friend. “So long as he’s happy. That’s what I tell them. It doesn’t matter if they’re in the limelight or not in the limelight.”

The Wild n’ Out host said that Pete is doing better and has a handle on his heartbreak, “You know, Pete is my guy. I’m always there for him. He’s always been there for me. So, he seems like he’s doing as best as he could possibly be doing at this moment.”

The Saturday Night Live star split from fiancée, Ariana Grande, back in October. Pete later started seeing Kate, 46, in January, but the relationship sadly ended after four months. Kate is 20 years old than the comedian. Following Pete’s very public breakups, the comedian suffered from depression and posted many concerning messages to social media.

In December 2018, the Staten Island native posted a cryptic message on his profile. “I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you, but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last,” he said at the time. “All I’ve ever tried to do was help people. Just remember I told you so.” Many friends rushed to his side including Machine Gun Kelly. Additionally, Pete wiped his Instagram clean following his split from Kate.

Since Pete’s relationship rollercoaster, the actor seems to be in high spirits. He recently was on Dressing Funny with Tan France where he opened up about his struggles with depression, but was also joking and laughing with the Queer Eye star. As for Nick, his days as a matchmaker appear to be numbered.
