Savannah Guthrie‘s missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, may have died shortly after she was allegedly taken from her home.

In a ransom note sent to the Today coanchor and her family, the writer claims, “We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical condition. We never intended to hurt her, that was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken.”

“We believe it was heart related,” the writer said regarding the alleged death of Nancy, who was 84 years old when she went missing. “She is buried in nature now. Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome.”

“We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace,” the note read. “We are truly sorry.”

The note, sent to Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD-TV on February 6, was part of new information released on Friday, July 31, by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

In a media release shared to X, the department said they are releasing two ransom notes in hopes someone will recognize the author’s writing style.

The first note was sent to KOLD-TV on February 2, one day after Nancy was reported missing and was addressed directly to Savannah. It demanded bitcoin in exchange for her safe return.

Investigators also stated in the release that they recovered two videos from Nancy’s doorbell camera that “may be from two separate days” and show an unidentified man they believe “knows what happened to Nancy.”

According to authorities, the footage suggests the man “took steps to prepare for the event on the night of January 31 to February 1.”

Though there are currently no suspects nor persons of interest, the 54-year-old anchor and her family are still offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the recovery of Nancy.

Savannah’s mother is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds; she has brown hair and blue eyes.

People with any information regarding the case are asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324). You may also contact your local FBI office, the nearest American Embassy or Consulate, or you can submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
