Nancy Guthrie News: Wanted Woman ‘May Have Information’ in the Case, Says Ex Detective

While it’s been more than 100 days since Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home in Arizona, an unrelated kidnapping suspect may help provide clues in the case.

After the Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced that Coral Michelle Smith, 40, is wanted in connection with a separate kidnapping case, retired homicide detective Chris McDonough weighed in on how Smith could possibly help in gathering new information about Savannah Guthrie‘s missing mother.

During a recent Jesse Weber Live broadcast on NewsNation, McDonough — who has worked on several high-profile cases, including those involving JonBenét Ramsey and Elizabeth Smart — explained what investigators will likely do if and when Smith is found.

Authorities have noted that Smith is not connected to the Guthrie case, but McDonough believes there is a possibility she could provide valuable information.

McDonough said it would be “very standard protocol” to try to find Smith and “see if they can connect her in any way, shape or form” to the Guthrie case, which seems to currently have no leads.

“They’re going to ask her about any familiarity around the Guthrie home,” he said, including asking Smith things like: “What’s the word on the street?”

Though there are currently no suspects nor persons of interest, the Today anchor and her family are offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the recovery of Nancy, 84, and Savannah said during her interview with Hoda Kotb that she hopes and prays someone will come forward.

As for Smith, McDonough said she is going to be “a very interesting piece of this puzzle” if she is found and questioned.

“She may not be involved in any way, shape or form, but she may have information that may connect something,” he said.

Smith has a long list of convictions in Pima County, and she has reportedly gone by several aliases, including Corral Albright, Coral Albright-Smith and Under The Sea Smith.

While it is still unknown what exactly happened to Nancy after she was last seen on January 31, video footage released by authorities show an “armed individual” appearing to tamper with the camera at her front door.

Savannah’s mother is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds; she has brown hair and blue eyes.
