Months after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home, authorities have announced a new development nearby: A suspect has been identified in a kidnapping investigation that took place less than seven miles from where the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie was last seen.
According to an official notice shared by the Pima County Police Department on Facebook, authorities are looking for Coral Michelle Smith, 40, wanted in connection with a separate kidnapping case that took place on Thursday, May 29.
Authorities said the kidnapping took place at the intersection of River Road and La Cholla Boulevard in Tucson, roughly seven miles from Nancy’s Catalina Foothills home.
Smith has racked up a long list of convictions in Pima County.
According to 13 News, she was found guilty of robbery in 2011, disorderly conduct and attempted vehicle theft in 2014, another robbery in 2019 and criminal trespass in 2021.
A 2019 case involving kidnapping and drug charges listed the victim as under 15 years old, as reported by the New York Post. Those charges were later dismissed, according to court records.
Smith has gone by several aliases, including Corral Albright, Coral Albright-Smith, and Under The Sea Smith, according to 13 News.
Pima County officials urged the public to “be on the lookout” for Smith but released no further details about the May 29 incident.
According to the official notice, the police described Smith as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 136 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.
Her tattoos include a smiley face and heart on her right ankle, a rose with flames on her right foot and the words “love, life, family” on her left leg.
Authorities are offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps locate Smith. Meanwhile, a reward of more than $1.2 million remains available for information connected to Nancy’s disappearance.
