Misty Copeland took the stage at the Oscars on Sunday, March 15 to perform steps away from Timothée Chalamet.
Copeland pirouetted on pointe shoes alongside dancers of all kinds during a perforamance of Sinners‘ “I Lied to You” by Miles Caton, Raphael Saadiq, Brittany Howard, Shaboozey, Buddy Guy and more musicians, who were joined by the film’s actors including Jayme Lawson, Li Jun Li and Jack O’Connell.
Though the camera did not show him during the performance, the Marty Supreme star, 30, has been seated next to girlfriend Kylie Jenner, 28, in the front row of the theater.
Chalamet has gotten flak for saying “no one cares” about ballet or opera in a Variety and CNN town hall in February.

The renowned ballerina, 43, was among many artists to clap back.
“First I have to say that it’s very interesting that he invited me to be a part of promoting Marty Supreme with respect to my art form,” Copeland said at an event in New York City on March 8, per People. “But I think that it’s important that we acknowledge that, yes, this is an art form that’s not ‘popular’ and a part of pop culture as movies are. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have enduring relevance in culture.”
“I mean, he wouldn’t be an actor and have the opportunities he has as a movie star if it weren’t for opera and ballet and their relevance in that medium,” she added. “So all of these mediums have a space and we shouldn’t be comparing them.”
