Miley Cyrus and Kaitlynn Carter Have ‘Been Friends for a While’ Before Their PDA-Filled Vacation

Even though Miley Cyrus‘ relationship with Kaitlynn Carter seems to have recently taken a romantic turn, they’ve actually been friends for quite some time. Multiple sources revealed to In Touch that Miley, 26, and Kaitlyn, 30, actually met because their estranged husbands, Liam Hemsworth and Brody Jenner, surf together and hang out in the same crew of Malibu’s A-listers.

“Miley and Kaitlynn have been spending lots and lots of time together. Miley will go to Kaitlynn’s house late night — dropped off in an SUV — and spend hours there. They’ve been friends for a while,” an insider exclusively told In Touch. “This also isn’t their first trip together. They were in England last month together but didn’t post pics together, just separates of them each at Stonehenge.”

Another source revealed additional details about their time together across the pond. “Kaitlynn was behind the scenes when Miley was performing at Glastonbury at the end of June but kept a low profile. Kait was with a bunch of friends too,” the source exclusively told In Touch.

But it seems like things have just started to heat up between the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer and the Hills: New Beginnings star now that they both are recently single. On August 2, In Touch confirmed that Kaitlynn split from Brody, 35, after six years together and one year of marriage — even though they were never legally married, according to Us Weekly. “They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward,” Brody’s rep Scott Newman told In Touch in a statement at the time.

Meanwhile, In Touch confirmed that Miley and Liam, 29, split after ten years together and less than eight months of marriage on Saturday, August 10. A rep for Miley confirmed the split in a statement to People. “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,” the statement read. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”

After both of their splits from their husbands were confirmed, Miley and Kaitlynn were spotted getting cozy during their vacation in Italy. In photos obtained by Entertainment Tonight, they were seen making out as they laid out in the sun.

A rep for Miley Cyrus did not immediately respond to In Touch‘s request for comment.
