The limited series will center on the 1996 murder of the 6-year-old, whose death became one of the country’s most closely followed unsolved cases. The project will revisit the investigation and give viewers a closer look at the lasting impact of JonBenét’s death on her family.
According to Netflix, the series will examine the case from multiple perspectives, looking at the years of scrutiny and unanswered questions that have surrounded JonBenét’s murder for nearly three decades.

McCarthy, 55, previously opened up about portraying the late mom while the series was still in production.
“I think we’re putting a really great version of [the story] out,” the Bridesmaids star said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards. “I’m hoping we’re giving them their humanity as well as telling the story. I’m really proud of it … It’s a really great group, and it’s strangely been rewarding and challenging all at the same time.”
While Netflix has yet to announce a release date for The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey, it’s expected to hit the streamer this winter, which will also mark the 30th anniversary of the horrific crime.
