Mark Consuelos knows he won’t be having sex with wife Kelly Ripa when she puts her retainer in at night.
The 55-year-old — who has been married to Ripa, also 55, since 1996 — made the revelation during a conversation on Live with Kelly and Mark about how koalas mate on Wednesday, April 1.
“When they’re mating, the koala goes in there and says, ‘Hey, I’m Mr. Koala, nice to meet you, Ms. Koala,’” he explained. “Sometimes they’re not interested. Instead of being heartbroken, they go back to sleep.”
Ripa chimed in, “It’s like you!”
The star imitated turning over and putting in her orthodontic appliance. “He hears the retainer pop in, it’s like a chastity belt,” she quipped.
Consuelos admitted he knows it’s game over for intimacy when he hears his wife’s retainer go in. “When you put it in, it’s like, click, click, click,” he explained. “Alright, guess I’m going to bed.”
“I come to bed with my little eucalyptus leaf, and I’m like, ‘Hey, you want to fool around? No? Okay,'” Consuelos joked.
The koala conversation, which was shared on Instagram and first reported by Page Six, comes just weeks after the couple revealed they no longer have morning sex — which Consuelos admitted he prefers — because their show has gotten in the way.

During a Tuesday, March 3, appearance on their talk show, Shrinking actress Christa Miller, 61, referenced the couple’s previous on-air discussion. “I have something to say. I watch this show, I’m a fan. And, Mark, I’m going to say this with love,” Miller shared. “There’s no morning sex. No one likes it. And not even on the weekends.”
“I’ve got to tell you, this job has really gotten in the way of that,” Consuelos replied. “It’s been the antidote for it.”
Ripa admitted she doesn’t indulge in bedtime cuddling with her significant other, because “spooning leads to forking!”
Miller said she and Ripa have a similar issue, asking the talk show host to tell her husband TV producer and screenwriter Bill Lawrence, 57, there is “no morning sex.”
Ripa turned to the camera and said, “Bill, for the love of God. On behalf of all of us here in the studio audience, there is absolutely no morning sex.”
