Mac Miller Fans Are Both Honored And Devastated By The Fact That His First Grammy Nom Came After Death

It was devastating when the news broke that Mac Miller had died at the young age of 26 in September, but fortunately, Mac’s legacy continues to live on. The 2019 Grammy nominations were announced on Dec. 7 and his album, Swimming, was nominated in the Best Rap Album category. The news is bittersweet as this is the rapper’s first Grammy nod and sadly, he will not be able to see if he wins.

However, In November, fans got two surprises from the late rapper. Spotify released two brand new tracks from Mac, so that fans could still enjoy his music. Later, his followers found out that Mac had a secret Instagram account, where he introduced fans to his alter ego, “Lars.” His funny videos can be found under the handle, @cloudywithachanceofawesome69, where “Lars” shows off his “dope” vaping skills to his followers.

Mac’s toxicology report claimed that he had died from a combination of several drugs — fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol. The “What’s the Use?” singer was always honest with his fans about how hard it was for him to get sober. “I was doing a lot of drugs around that time. Which is another difference now: I’m not doing as many drugs. It just eats at your mind, doing drugs every single day, every second. It’s rough on your body,” the singer confessed to Billboard magazine in 2015.

His ex-girlfriend, Ariana Grande, even tried to help him get his life back on track, but unfortunately, he couldn’t overcome his addiction issues. His close friend, Shane Powers, set the record straight on his podcast about how much Ari tried supported the late rapper. “Ariana and him were together, and they were very much in love. And I have to say, she was incredible when he was first sobering up. She was f—g G to him,” he explained. “There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana.”

He continued, “I saw that, I was around it, I took phone calls from her. ‘How do I help? What do I do?’ This little girl was unbelievably involved and helpful to him being healthy. Because whether he [was] an addict or not, the way that Mac partied was not healthy.”

It’s unfortunate that Mac’s life had to end sooner than it should have, but we hope that he wins this posthumous Grammy.
