John Leguizamo’s ‘Ice Age’ Paychecks Helped Him Buy Multiple Homes, Pay for Children’s College

John Leguizamo‘s iconic role as Sid in Ice Age proves it pays to be funny.

“[It] allowed me to be really as funny as I want to be. Movies are more dramatic usually, but in that, I got to be hilarious,” Leguizamo, 66, told Entertainment Tonight on July 16 about his role in the animated franchise. “I got to be so silly and create this incredible character and creature.”

“It paid my bills! It got me a second and a triple home,” he continued. “It paid for my kids’ college.”

The Romeo + Juliet star has been a part of the animated franchise since the first film’s premiere in 2002. Now, more than two decades later, he’s back for a sixth appearance in the saga.

“You know, the first film took five years to make and now we’ve got number six coming up,” he added. “Reuniting the trio, bringing Queen Latifah aboard. And I think J. Lo is in it as well. Everybody is coming back for this one.”

Ice Age: Boiling Point — which is set to hit theaters in February 2027 — is described as “a dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure that takes Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat and the rest of the herd to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World,” according to Deadline.

“People have grown up with the whole series and it’s sort of a milestone in children’s lives,” he told Collider in March 2025 of returning for a sixth installment. “Now it’s like the grandparents are coming with the parents and grandchildren, and it’s a very sentimental journey for a lot of people — so I thought it would be a beautiful experience. The movie is really funny and cool. A lot of action, a lot of hilarity from Ray Romano, Denis Leary, and hopefully myself.”
