Jenna Dewan Gets Candid About ‘Trust’ Issues Following Channing Tatum Split: ‘It Was a Dark Time’

She’s an open book. Jenna Dewan is speaking out about her split with Channing Tatum in her vulnerable new memoir, Gracefully You: Finding Beauty and Balance in the Everyday. The Step Up actress revealed that she went through a rollercoaster of emotions in the months after her separation, including trust issues, and she grieved with “deep, painful, big cries.”

“The process wasn’t cute, light or fluffy,” Jenna, 38, wrote, according to a Radar Online. “It was a dark and difficult time, for sure.” The World of Dance star and her former flame, Channing, 39, were once one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples and news of their breakup even rocked fans to the core.

Jenna admitted the experience “tested” her strength in ways she “hadn’t though possible,” leading her to reflect on the past. “I started to wonder if everything I believed in and always talked about was even real,” she confessed. “Could anyone or anything ever be trusted?”

Channing and Jenna tied the knot in 2009 and the ex-power couple welcomed their first child — a daughter named Everly — in 2013. The dynamic duo called it quits after nearly nine years of marriage in April 2018, marking the end of an era.

The dancer ended up filing for divorce a few months later in October, and Channing’s romance with current girlfriend, Jessie J, became public knowledge soon after. In her book, Jenna revealed that she felt “blindsided” when hearing the news about Channing. “There I was, on a plane, alone, finding out about his new relationship,” she wrote.

Jenna explained how she was seriously considering sharing a piece of her mind on Twitter, but decided that wouldn’t have been a good call, writing, “Instead of reacting the way I wanted … I asked myself this: How do I choose grace in this moment?”

Luckily, the actress learned to cope with heartbreak and it ultimately led to her happiness. Later in her memoir, Jenna admitted that she found “deep love” with someone new, referring to her boyfriend, Steve Kazee. As her followers may already know, the couple is currently expecting their first child together.

Just a few days ago, it was confirmed that Channing and Jenna have filed to be declared as legally single, and it appears they have a great coparenting arrangement. “Channing’s really happy for Jenna,” an insider dished to In Touch exclusively. “The good news is that [Channing] likes Steve, so he knows that Jenna and their daughter are in good hands.”
