Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo made headlines this week when it was revealed that the country singer had quietly filed for a divorce, but a new report claims that there had been trouble behind the scenes for a while.
A source told Page Six on Wednesday, June 17, that “a combination of issues that had been building for years” was what ultimately led to Jelly Roll, 41, and Bunnie’s split.
“They came from similar worlds when they met and bonded over surviving difficult circumstances, but over time their lives started moving in different directions,” the source continued. “Jelly has changed tremendously over the last few years. His focus shifted to his health, faith, family and the long-term legacy he wants to leave behind.”
The source also said that their lifestyles had changed and “it became increasingly difficult to reconcile those two worlds.”
“Some people around them felt there was growing tension as Jelly embraced a more faith-centered lifestyle while Bunnie continued building the outspoken and provocative brand that had always been authentic to her,” the source explained.

The former couple had been open in the past about wanting to expand their family and, according to the source, they eventually found themselves on different pages. (Jelly Roll – real name: Jason DeFord – has daughter Bailee, 18, and son Noah, 9, from previous relationships.)
“There were also difficult conversations about expanding their family, timing and what they both wanted their future to look like,” the source told Page Six. “Those discussions became more complicated as his career continued to explode.”
The “Wild Ones” singer and Bunnie (real name: Alisa DeFord) first met in 2015 and got married the following year. During an October 2025 appearance on the Human School podcast, Jelly Roll confessed he cheated on the Dumb Blonde podcast host two years into their marriage. They briefly split but ultimately reconciled.
