Warning: Spoilers for the final season of The Bear are included in this story
The team behind The Bear paid a touching tribute to the late Rob Reiner in their final season.
Before the director’s shocking death, Reiner was featured in three episodes in season 4 as a financial mentor called Albert. Albert was helping chef Ebraheim (Edwin Lee Gibson) try to find more success with the restaurant’s beef sandwich take-away business.
Reiner died on December 14, 2025, before he could film any scenes for season five, which began shooting in January 2026, but show bosses found a way to include him in the beloved series, which follows Jeremy Allen White‘s Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto leading a restaurant in Chicago.
According to USA Today, Ebraheim called Albert for a pep talk before pitching his idea of a franchise of the take away business. Viewers only hear one side of the conversation.
“Albert, I’m going to speak to Carmy this afternoon. Please advise,” Ebraheim says in the scene. “’Repeat after me. Make it easy for him to say yes. Don’t use too many words. Have no fear. Don’t be scared by his blue eyes. Stop repeating. Stop repeating’ – oh, yes. Sorry. Yes, of course. Wish me luck.”
In a second call after his pitch to Carmy works out, Ebraheim calls Albert on the phone with the good news and tells him about a “perfect” space for a new franchise.
“Anything else I can do?” Ebraheim asks, pausing to listen and adding, “as you wish,” before ending the call.
Those three poignant words reference The Princess Bride, which was directed by Reiner. In the 1987 film, those words are used by Westley (Cary Elwes) when responding to requests from Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright). It is widely believed by film fans that whenever Wesley spoke those three words he meant, ‘I love you.’

White, 35, has praised his time working with Reiner on the show. “Sometimes you meet those heroes, and it’s disappointing and you wish you hadn’t,” he told USA Today. “And that’s just the opposite case with Rob. He delivered.”
The Deliver Me From Nowhere star went on to say Reiner was “incredibly generous [and] incredibly kind.”
The acclaimed filmmaker and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, were both found dead in their Brentwood home in December. As In Touch has previously reported, their son Nick Reiner, 32, has pleaded not guilty after being charged with their murders. He is due in court in September.
