Jessa Duggar Gives Birth to Baby No. 3 at Home Despite Previous Labor Complications

She’s here! Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald welcomed a baby girl on Sunday, May 26, Us Weekly confirmed. Although the Counting On star experienced labor complications in the past, Jessa, 26, chose not to go to a hospital for baby No. 3 — the couple’s first daughter, Ivy Jane Seewald.

While attempting to give birth at home is not uncommon when it comes to the Duggars, for Jessa, home birth hasn’t always been a breeze. When she gave birth to her first son, Spurgeon, Jessa was forced to go to the hospital after her midwife became concerned that she was bleeding more than normal. She was able to deliver him at home but headed to the hospital soon after her nearly 48-hour labor with her oldest.

Jessa’s labor with her second child, Henry, went much more smoothly. He was born safely at home, and Jessa later told People she and her husband were “surprised at how fast it went.” Her second delivery was so quick that by the time her mom, Michelle Duggar, and sister Jana Duggar arrived, Jessa was “already pushing when they walked in the door!”

By comparison, some of Jessa’s sisters had a much more difficult time when they went into labor. Jill Duggar — who was the first Duggar daughter to give birth — labored for a combined 70 hours to give birth to her oldest, Israel Dillard. She eventually had to be taken to the hospital and did not get the home birth she wanted, and in fact, had to have an emergency C-section to safely deliver her baby boy. She also had to have a C-section with her younger son, Samuel.

As for Joy-Anna Duggar, she too had to have an emergency C-section rather than the home birth she had “really wanted to at least try” for when it came to her son, Gideon. Whether she opts for an attempted home birth again with her second child remains to be seen.

So really, it sounds like Jessa’s third birth was easy in comparison to her first labor and some of the birth experiences her sisters had. Of course, labor is never easy, but we’re sure she’s thankful Ivy arrived with little fuss — relatively speaking.
