He added, “Being detail-oriented has for sure helped me achieve the successes that I’ve had. Where I’m at right now in life, I’m very grateful because coming from where a lot of inner-city kids, specifically Black kids, some of us don’t make it out. I’m extremely fortunate that I’ve been able to achieve the American Dream.”

The TLC alum took an unconventional path after he graduated from Missouri Western State University. Instead of pursuing his intended career, he served his community as a firefighter. 

After the former firefighter’s career was cut short due to injury, he shifted his mindset from physical labor to financial education.

Bilal explained that he was born and raised in the Muslim religion, which is something he has in common with Shaeeda. He met the yoga instructor from Trinidad and Tobago via social media and they were looking forward to tying the knot even though they only spent a total of seven days together in person. 

When the couple finally reunited on season 9, cultural differences caused them to clash, especially over finances. Bilal explained that he would most definitely expect Shaeeda to sign a prenup in order to protect his assets and his children — since he shares a 16-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son with his ex-wife, Shahida.

Another issue in their relationship is that Bilal had not been forthcoming with his finances and his lifestyle. He told Shahida that he “purposely” didn’t flaunt his money, material items or his wealth to Shaeeda. “Even when we video chat, you’re looking at a wall,” Bilal admitted.

Instead of picking her up from the airport in his Mercedes and taking her straight to his beautiful home, he picked her up in a work van and took her to his childhood home — which appeared to be in poor condition — to see if she would be happy with her new living arrangements no matter the conditions.

However, the prank backfired on Bilal. “A lot of things need to be fixed,” Shaeeda told Bilal. He hit back, “A lot of things need to be fixed with your attitude.”

Despite starting their life in America together off on the wrong foot, Bilal and Shaeeda ended up making it down the aisle. In Touch exclusively confirmed via court records that Bilal and Shaeeda got married December 18, 2021, in Lees Summit, Missouri. Their wedding aired in a scene during the 90 Day Fiancé season 9 finale in July.

Amid season 7 of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? the couple’s discussions about starting a family were widely documented, as Shaeeda was all for the idea whereas Bilal dragged his feet. Being slapped with the label of the series’ “villain,” fans were quick to point out Bilal’s behavior and reticent approach to having children with his wife. 

Despite their drama that played out during the most recent season, the couple appears to be going strong. On January 4, 2023, Bilal and Shaeeda took to Instagram to share a joint post of them kissing. “Cheers to 2023! Our first date night for the new year! Thank you supreme for everything! I can’t imagine life without you baby,” the captioned the sweet photo. “NON ALCOHOLIC DRINK. I DON’T DRINK.”

“I get that Bilal doesn’t want to talk about it. But I’m getting older, and I don’t have much time left. The prenup says that we have to try to have a baby by the time I am 40,” Shaeeda said in a confessional during an October 2022 episode. “If he violates the contract, I might have to take him to court. I wanted a traditional marriage. He decided to get all contractual on me, so, this is the price of contracts. You pay.”
