During a Mother’s Day event held at the White House on Wednesday, May 6, the first lady, 56, opened with remarks about what it means to be a mother — especially for those whose children serve in the military.
“Mothers help build the soul of our nation,” she said (per footage shared by Fox 5 New York). “I pray you find enduring strength as your loved one serves in defense of our freedom.”
As she began to introduce her 79-year-old husband, Melania said, “Most know my husband as the strong commander-in-chief, but his empathy transcends the role and shapes a caring leader who constantly remembers each and every American soldier is someone’s child.”

As Trump was pressed about his connection to the convicted sex offender and late pedophile by Bloomberg correspondent Catherine Lucey, he appeared to point at her face (she was off-camera) and cut her off by saying, “Quiet. Quiet, Piggy.”
At the time, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed Trump’s harsh and rude words by saying that the president is simply “very frank and honest with everyone in this room.”
