The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards brought colorful performances and big winners during the socially-distant awards show on Sunday, August 30.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, singers like Miley CyrusThe Weeknd and Black Eyed Peas got creative with pre-taped productions while artists Maluma and CNCO performed on stage in New York City with an in-person crowd separated in cars.

However, Lady Gaga definitely stole the night. The “Sour Candy” songstress rocked a plethora of stylish alien-like facemasks. She pulled out a whopping seven looks during the two-hour show and each one was more show-stopping than the next.

The “Stupid Love” singer took home the first-ever Tricon Award, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration for “Rain On Me” with Ariana Grande and Best Cinematography,

“I think as she’s grown and matured and really come into her own and you can see — I mean, she talks about how much more confident she’s become as a person — and I think you see that in the way that she’s styling herself as well,” Kerin Rose Gold, a longtime pal of the NYC native and creative designer previously told Life & Style. “I love that she’s always down to take a risk and doesn’t care about current trends but at the same time, has done a really incredible job at going really elegant and really timeless.”

Kerin added, “She’s done an amazing job at sort of both taking risks and taking a lot of underground fashion and underground creative art and presenting it on a world stage, and she also does an incredible job at being this timeless, glamorous, beautiful woman. I think a lot of women have those dualities in us but we feel like we have to show one or the other and I feel she does both.”

As for other big winners of the night, The Weeknd won Video of the Year and Best R&B while BTS received awards for Best Group, Best Pop and Best K-Pop. Megan Thee Stallion won her first VMA for her song “Savage” in the category Best Hip-Hop.

Despite the Video Music Awards looking and feeling a bit different this year, there were still plenty of memorable moments. Keep scrolling to see what happened!
