‘The Hills’ Star Jason Wahler Gets Candid About His Past: ‘I Was a Womanizing Alcoholic’
He’s come a long way. During the Monday, July 1, episode of The Hills: New Beginnings, Jason Wahler got candid about his past including his alcohol abuse and time in jail.
“I was a womanizing alcoholic,” the 32-year-old said during his confessional on the show. “[Ages] 18 to 23, I went to 12 different treatment centers from Florida to Hawaii. I was arrested 18 times. Over the last 10 years, my life has totally made a complete 180.”
The reality star is now happily married to his wife, Ashley Wahler — they share 11-month-old daughter Delilah — but he confessed that this is the first time he’s actually been present in a relationship. “This is the first sober relationship I had ever entered into,” he said. “I had, like, actual feelings and emotions because I had numbed stuff out for so many years.”
Before the season premiered, the MTV personality revealed he felt like he had to get to know his castmates all over again since he wasn’t in the right mindset when he was previously drinking. “My perception was so skewed back in the day. I wasn’t in a place to really get to know anybody,” he told Us Weekly in June. “I mean, I didn’t know myself, you know, so I was not in a position to be able to connect with anybody else.”
The handsome hunk famously dated Lauren Conrad on and off during Laguna Beach and The Hills before they went their separate ways in 2006. However, Jason got to know Heidi Montag over the past few years since she used to be best friends with Lauren, but there was one person in particular he didn’t interact with. “I honestly never really knew Spencer [Pratt]. I knew Heidi pretty well for a while, and I have always had my thoughts and opinions on her. I’ve always liked her,” he said. “But with Spencer, I just never got to know him. We literally never met. We’d crossed paths or different things and actually talk. … He’s a good guy.”
We’re just glad that Jason got his act together, so he can be involved with all the ~drama~ on the show now.
