‘Teen Mom’ Alum Farrah Abraham Declares Teenage Parents ‘Really Help Our Economy’

Farrah Abraham is offering a bold take on teenage parents, declaring that she believes that they’re helping fuel the economy.

“I think some people really took for granted the 16 and Pregnant and the Teen Mom franchise, but I am living it and I am breathing it,” Farrah, 34, said in an interview with the Daily Mail published on Sunday, April 19.

“I am witnessing the teen parents out there, they really help our economy, and they really can see things faster because you get a full circle faster,” the 16 and Pregnant alum continued. “You get to see your child at your age faster, and you get to improve.”

Farrah gave birth to daughter Sophia at just 17 years old, the age Sophia is now. She shared Sophia with ex-boyfriend Derek Underwood who tragically passed away in a car accident at age 18.

“Sophia’s writing her first book, I’m writing my second memoir right now, and I just can’t wait to reflect with our fans and with all these new TV shows, with our 16 and Pregnant, Teen Mom groups,” she added. “I look at my daughter and I did so much better than anyone even ever thought, and I’ve accomplished that and been successful.”

Farrah also said that Sophia is currently writing an autobiography about essentially growing up on reality TV, and she compared it to Oscar-nominated film The Truman Show.

“It’s almost like The Truman Show, where it’s like, they’re making his voice up, they’re making his identity up for him, and then who she really is, and then how she created who she is today,” Farrah told the publication.

The former MTV star said the book will cover how Sophia handled fame, her work ethic and what “this” looks like “for her Gen Z generation.”

Earlier this year, Farrah revealed that she was dipping her toe into politics, sharing that she was running for mayor of Austin, Texas, which she thought was happening in 2026. The former reality star had posted several political posts on her Instagram about campaigning for the position.

However, during the livestream with TMZ in January, she was informed that the election for mayor would not take place until 2028. Soon after the awkward moment, Farrah deleted the previous political postings and ultimately removed herself from the race altogether.
