Stars Who Spoke Out Against Anna Wintour, the Met Gala: Billy Porter, Tina Fey and More

The Met Gala may be Fashion’s Biggest Night, but some stars aren’t impressed by the year’s most coveted invite — or the person responsible for overseeing it: Anna Wintour. Ahead of the 2026 Met Gala, read on to find out which household names criticized the former Vogue editor and the star-studded event.

Billy Porter 

Because of his groundbreaking gender-fluid fashion choices, Wintour once asked the actor for his advice. “That b***h said to me, ‘How can we do better?’” he claimed in an interview with The Telegraph in 2023. “Six months later, Harry Styles is the first man on the cover. It’s not his fault he’s white and straight. I call out the gatekeepers.” During a recent appearance on Bevelations, Porter also shared he has not been invited back since 2019, adding:  “I’m good, and I don’t go to places where I’m not welcome.”

Jennifer Aniston

In 2025, the Morning Show star admitted that while she has been invited to the annual fête, she always skips. “It overwhelms me. It’s the getting ready, the putting on the dress,” she told Glamour. “I’m a ‘jeans and flip-flops and tank top’ kind of girl.”

André Leon Talley 

After he was fired, the late Vogue editor-at-large called longtime friend Wintour “not capable” of “simple human kindness” in his 2020 memoir The Chiffon Trenches, per Page Six.

Amy Schumer

“It’s people, like, doing an impression of having a conversation,” the comedian complained in 2016 of the Met Gala to Howard Stern during an appearance on his SiriusXM show, via Time. “I left the second I could.” (She later attended in 2022.)

Gwyneth Paltrow 

According to USA Today, the Goop guru famously dissed Wintour’s Met Gala in 2013, calling it “so un-fun” before declaring, “I’m never going again.” (Like Schumer, she returned in 2017 and 2019.)

Tim Gunn 

“I don’t look her in the eyes because I will be turned into stone,” the Making the Cut alum told Page Six, before joking he had a “bad relationship” with the editor.

Tina Fey 

“Such a jerk parade,” the actress and writer, 56, said of the Met Gala during a 2010 interview with David Letterman. “Every jerk from every walk of life is there wearing, like, some stupid thing.”

Giorgio Armani 

The designer was insulted when Anna skipped his Milan Fashion Week show in 2014, telling WWD: “She is influential and powerful. But, perhaps, I’m influential as well!”
