Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Claims Kody and Robyn’s Courtship Wasn’t ‘Appropriate’

Sister Wives star Janelle Brown claimed that her ex-wife Kody Brown and his last remaining wife Robyn Brown’s courtship wasn’t “appropriate” before they got married.

While reflecting on the early days of Kody, 56, and Robyn’s relationship during the Sunday, June 15, episode of Sister Wives: One on One, Janelle, 56, said that they “had a very long courtship compared to the rest of us.”

“It is not really appropriate for a married man to have a long courtship,” she continued of Kody and Robyn, 46, noting that they “actually courted, I think, for almost a year.”

Meanwhile, Janelle admitted that she might not have married Kody if they had a longer courting process. “If I had a year with Kody, I’m not sure I would have married him, honestly,” she told host Sukanya Krishnan. “I might have seen him for a little bit more of who he was, you know what I mean? Gotten sort of off the charm ride.”

Janelle explained that she was attracted to Kody’s “charisma,” which led to her decision to spiritually marry him in 1993.

“Regardless, I don’t need to go back and trash everything that was,” Janelle of their marriage. “If I were to say, ‘Oh, I’m really sorry I did all that,’ would I be in this great place?”

Christine Brown was Kody’s first wife to leave him in November 2021, while Janelle followed suit one year later in December 2022. His first wife, Meri Brown, also confirmed their split in January 2023.

Kody – who legally wed Robyn in 2014 in order to adopt her children from a previous relationship – looked back on meeting his wife for the first time at church during the episode. “We locked eyes and I couldn’t break away,” he said of the interaction. “I’m talking to her like we’ve known each other our whole lives.”

“The kind of safety combined with just the depth of connection, she’s very vulnerable and I was at the time and we just, there was a depth of connection that I do not believe I have ever had,” he continued.

Kody admitted that he quickly realized his feelings for Robyn were more intense than the ones he had for Janelle, Christine, 53, and Meri, 54.

“I noticed a marked difference from the beginning,” the father of 18 recalled. “I had no intentions of shifting away from it.”

Also during the episode, Christine claimed that Kody had a “sexual experience” in college that he never told her about. However, he did tell Robyn about the moment “the first month” they knew each other.

In light of the revelation, Christine wondered if Kody had kept secrets about his and Robyn’s sex life before they wed. “Makes me wonder how close they actually were before they got married,” she said of the couple.

“If he’s going to hide the college experience — we’ve all seen their engagement photos — and I’m just automatically think[ing], ‘Huh, I wonder how close they got before they were married?’” Christine said.

After Sukanya, 53, asked Christine if she believed Kody and Robyn had “sex prior” to their marriage, she insinuated that they had a “sexual experience.”
