Reese Witherspoon’s Ex Ryan Phillippe Was ‘Suspicious’ of Jim Toth, ‘Cheering On’ Her New Romance

Reese Witherspoon’s boyfriend Oliver Haarmann has gotten two thumbs up from friends and family, including her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe.

The Morning Show star, 50, was first linked to the private equity financier, 58, in 2024, and the couple have since been photographed packing on the PDA aboard a yacht in Saint-Tropez, France, last summer.

“Ryan is cheering on Reese and Oliver’s relationship,” a source says of the 51-year-old actor, who shares daughter Ava, 26, and son Deacon, 22, with Witherspoon. “[Their] kids do see Oliver a lot. He’s a pretty constant presence at Reese’s L.A. house and has integrated himself into the family.”

The Big Little Lies star moved on with Haarmann after she ended her 12-year marriage to former talent agent Jim Toth, with whom she shares 13-year-old son Tennessee, in 2023.

“It’s fair to say that at first, Ryan was a lot more suspicious of Jim when that relationship started because the kids were so much younger and because Jim was a big-time power broker in Hollywood at the time,” admits the source. “But Oliver is a different story.”

Haarmann is not only a businessman but also a minority co-owner of the New York Islanders and co-founder of the Surgo Foundation, a charity he runs alongside his ex-wife Mala Goankar.

“He’s been a great influence on Reese and he’s helped her think big, beyond her Hollywood and business career,” In Touch’s source reveals. “It’s been wonderful for Reese to finally have a relationship with somebody who isn’t caught up in the L.A. rat race.”

Haarmann is “a great influence on the whole family” too, adds the source. “But Reese is going to be the one who ultimately decides if she wants to be married again, not her kids and not Ryan.”
