Ms. Rachel Brings Letters From Kids in ICE Custody to DC After Leading Singalong at Detention Center

Famed children’s YouTube personality Ms. Rachel is taking on Congress.

The 43-year-old (whose real name is Rachel Griffin-Accurso) is continuing to speak out for children affected by President Donald Trump‘s immigration crackdown, and she recently made her way to Washington, D.C.

In one Instagram video shared late last week, the internet personality — who was dressed in a bright pink suit with her usual Ms. Rachel headband — addressed followers directly from the United States Capitol.

“I’m in DC with 535 packets of children’s letters and pictures from Dilly Immigration Detention Center,” Ms. Rachel wrote in the caption. “Members [of] Congress need to hear their voices and understand the trauma that they are enduring while a for profit prison company, Core Civic, makes millions. I also included a letter from myself, urging members of Congress to end family detention and separation and unite in not wanting to be people who harm, abuse, traumatize and terrify children.”

In a joint Instagram video with Dr. Anita K Patel from the Children’s National Hospital in Washington that was posted Monday, June 15, Ms. Rachel explained, “We are here talking to members of Congress about Dilly Immigration Detention Center.”

The two spoke about how children being detained is “harmful.” Ms. Rachel followed up that post with multiple statements on Tuesday, June 16. One said, “All people have human rights. All children have human rights. When you violate those rights, there should be accountability.”

Her social media following has been mainly supportive of her political views, with one person commenting, “Ms Rachel should be running this country and I am so serious!!!! 👏.”

Last week, Ms. Rachel shared a video of herself leading a sing-along outside of Delaney Hall, a facility used for immigrant detention in Newark, New Jersey.

The popular children’s entertainer — who has a YouTube following of 20.2 million subscribers — has been outspoken in recent days when it comes to the safety and well-being of children amid the ongoing immigration crackdown.

While Ms. Rachel has typically strayed away from promoting her political beliefs, she declared in a March interview with NBC News, “I am political.”

The Trump administration has come under fire, specifically after the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renée Nicole Good at the hands of law enforcement.
