Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s documentary, Cookie Queens, fell flat during its opening weekend and failed to find much of an audience, despite receiving glowing reviews from critics.

According to a new report from Page Six Hollywood published on Monday, August 10, the documentary, which marks the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first theatrical feature as executive producers, earned just $327,797 from 446 theaters during its opening weekend. The total averaged to about $735 per screen.

The outlet reported that the documentary finished at No. 15, behind several indie releases, including CatVideoFest 2026, a feature-length compilation of internet cat videos.

Despite the disappointing numbers at the box office, Cookie Queens was still received well by critics. Directed by Alysa Nahmias, the documentary currently has a 94 percent rating from 48 critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cookie Queens serves up an eminently accessible and easily meme-able serving of American-girl cuteness, featuring a diverse cast of well-chosen young women,” a review from The Hollywood Reporter reads.

Rotten Tomatoes hasn’t generated a score from audience reviewers yet because too few viewers have submitted ratings. However, 8 of the 13 audience reviews awarded the documentary 4.5 stars or higher.

Jeff Bock, who works as a senior media analyst at Exhibitor Relations, suggested the timing of the release may have actually worked against the film.

“The documentary probably should have been released at the height of Girl Scout cookie season, when the cookies, and the girls selling them, are part of the national conversation,” Bock told Page Six Hollywood. “For a small documentary, timing is marketing. It missed the very window that could have made it feel relevant and turned curiosity into ticket sales.”

Cookie Queens follows Girl Scouts throughout their competitive cookie-selling season and premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival before it landed in theaters.

The dismal box office performance is the latest challenge for Archewell Productions, which Meghan, 45, and Harry, 41, launched after signing a $100 million deal with Netflix in 2020.

While the couple’s Harry & Meghan docuseries became a huge hit for the streaming platform, several of their subsequent projects have struggled to generate the same level of audience interest.

Meghan’s lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, only lasted two seasons on Netflix before it was canceled, and Harry’s documentary, Polo, was slammed by critics who called it “tedious” and “boring,” per the New York Post.
