Civil sisters-in-law. Duchess Kate (née Middleton) and Duchess Meghan (née Markle) are set to make a rare appearance during the Remembrance Day festivities this weekend — which marks their first joint outing since Wimbledon over the summer. But an insider exclusively reveals to In Touch that while Meghan, 38, and Kate, 37, may not be close, they will put on a united front for the public during their royal duties.

“Meghan and Kate certainly aren’t best friends and I doubt they ever will be,” a source tells In Touch. “Kate has finally reached out to Meghan to remind her that she’s not alone — being a normal person who married into the royal family, to some extent Kate understands what she’s going through. They’ll be civil to each other in public, but that’s about as far as their relationship goes.”

It’s been a rough transition into royal life for Meghan. The Duchess of Sussex previously opened up about her struggles in dealing with the way she’s been treated in the British press during an emotional ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which premiered last month. An insider previously told In Touch that while the Duchess of Cambridge can relate to how Meghan is feeling, she chose not to get too involved at all.

“To some extent, Kate does feel sorry for Meghan,” the source said. “She has a good heart and isn’t the kind of person to say, ‘You’ve brought it upon yourself,’ but for the most part she’s keeping herself out of the situation. Kate has enough on her plate looking after three kids and fulfilling royal duties. She barely has a moment to herself and tries to avoid drama and conflict at all costs.”

But Duchess Meghan and Duchess Kate aren’t the only royals going through a rift. Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, have been drifting apart as they each grow their own families and assume different roles within the royal family. During his ITV documentary, Harry, 35, addressed rumors of a possible feud between him and William, 37.

“Part of this role and part of this job, this family being under the pressure that it’s under, inevitably, you know, stuff happens,” the Duke of Sussex said. “But look, we are brothers, we will always be brothers. We are certainly on different paths at the moment, but I will always be there for him, and as I know, he will always be there for me.”
